Art Picnic

The Art Picnic has long been a favorite among art connoisseurs. After a roughly half-hour tour of the current exhibition, the conversation continues over fresh delicacies from the Wilhelmshaven weekly market. This time, the focus is on the theme of islands. The exhibition Sand and Salt – Islands Found and Lost explores, on the one hand, islands as fragile habitats that are often threatened by climate change and rising sea levels, overtourism, or marine debris. On the other hand, it addresses sunken worlds such as the mythical Atlantis, Vineta, or Rungholt. International artistic perspectives – ranging from photography to video, installation, drawings, sculpture, and live-action role-playing – explore islands as political, ecological, social, and imaginary spaces.
