The Inevitable Cooling (sequel)

For those who dive deep enough, the sea opens up and reveals a new land. Before the cold waters crash down on Wilhelmshaven, there is one last chance to encounter the children of a lost future: the fairies who rule the canals; the dead who inhabit the towers. And to become part of the game they’ve been playing ever since the glaciers disappeared.

The Inevitable Cooling is a live role-playing game produced by Carl Brandi in collaboration with other visual and performing artists for the exhibition Sand and Salt – Islands Found and Lost, with the aim of creating a participatory artwork from stories of lost, dormant, and sunken islands. The significance of hidden and shared places in our midst becomes negotiable between play and reality. Journeys through living tradition, science-fantasy, and utopian theories touch on the question of whether the place where we live has itself long since sunk. Do only the toxins in the maggots’ bodies still tell of the causes of the downfall, or is the root of a new, unknown island already writhing within the decay?
